Jacobus Bruyn In memory of Jacobus Bruyn, Esqr,
who died on the 26th day of April, AD MDCCLXXXI,
Aged 75 years & 5 mon.
His mortal part now claims its pristine state,
Which heaven once taught whate’er was good and great,
That Virtues Eminent like his can die,
Full oft his friends shall witness with a sigh,
And say, when passing by this well-known grave,
Here rests the good, the Just, the wise, the brave.
‘Mong fallen men so few like him remain,
‘We scarce shall look upon his like again,’
The friend of human-kind, his Country’s friend,
And in one word, his Eulogy to end
(Let truth say more of monarchs if she can),
Here lies God’s Noblest work, –an Honest Man! (Inscription courtesy of Find a Grave)

Here Lyes Interred the Body of Isaac Has-brouck, Esq. Ded the- 6th of April AD 1778-Aged 66 years 6 Days

  1. Another wonderful church and cemetery, AJ! The headstones are fascinating, and the buildings look amazing after almost 300 years. Thanks for sharing.
