Historic Huguenot Street has been selected as a 2024 Americana Corner Preserving America Grant Program recipient.

NEW PALTZ, NY (March 15, 2024) – Historic Huguenot Street is proud to announce that the site has been selected as a 2024 Americana Corner Preserving America Grant Program recipient. Historic Huguenot Street received $7,500 in grant funding for the site’s 1799 House. Historic Huguenot Street will use the grant funds for Phase I of a comprehensive preservation project, which aims to restore the 1799 House to a safe state so that it can be reopened to the public, integrated into the daily tour, and used for exhibit and programming space.

As the only house on the site whose architecture reflects the time between the American Revolution and the Civil War, the 1799 House provides the opportunity to interpret and discuss cultural changes in the Hudson River Valley post-Revolution through the Civil War, a critical period in American history.

Americana Corner was founded by Tom Hand in 2020 as an online resource to help others rediscover America’s incredible founding and its first century of expansion. The Preserving America Grant Program helps organizations tell the multi-faceted story of America from its founding era through its first century as a nation.

About Historic Huguenot Street
A National Historic Landmark District, Historic Huguenot Street (HHS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to preserving a pre-Revolutionary Hudson Valley settlement and engaging diverse audiences in the exploration of America’s multicultural past, in order to understand the historical forces that have shaped America. As an educational institution founded by the town’s French-speaking Protestant descendants and chartered by the University of the State of New York Department of Education, HHS explores the lives of the early European colonists, honors the region’s Indigenous people, and acknowledges the enslaved and disenfranchised peoples who built this place. Today, HHS is recognized as an innovative museum and community gathering place, providing visitors with an inclusive presentation of our shared past.
