Rank: Ordinary Seaman

Battle: he was part of a boatโ€™s crew detailed for General Terry. They are reported to have been the only men who entered Fort Fisher in the assault from the fleet on January 15, 1865.

Award: Recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor for valor in combat. He is one if 3 Hispanic Americans to receive this award during the Civil War.

Died December 28, 1923. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, Queens, NY

  1. I never knew about Philip Bazaar until now. His story shows that Hispanics have contributed to American life for far longer than most of us realize. Thank you for sharing this.

  3. Wow. A great biography about a man who was an honorable soldier. He was born in 1838, a time where most of us were not even in this planet๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚, who knew we would be born, haha.

    Anyways, Philip was a great soldier by the look of things, he won an award and that is great. May he rest in peace๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
